6 things to say to your Photographer if you want to get right on their wick...

Note: wick, nerves, basically to really bug them - in case you weren't sure...

I thought I'd do a little tongue in cheek post because upon talking to other photographers, not just in the horsey-industry, it's evident that we all end up with similar experiences! We know they're all usually said in good faith, but I find it amusing how we all end up rolling our eyes at the same things. So here are some top tips to try next time you really want to bug the photographer in your life!

The family occasion...

Let's start strong to really get us all going... Make sure you invite us to a family/friend party/occasion and then casually in the same sentence say something like 'remember to bring your camera!''... Oops, there I go again! How brazen of me thinking I was invited to have a nice, relaxing time as a guest with my nearest and dearest! Shall I bill you for my overheads whilst we're at it?

The "Influencer"...

"I thought you could take some photos of me (for free) and I'll promote you on social media" - person with 2 followers and absolutely 0 business in social media influencing. Make sure you spell everything wrong and don't include any of those comma things that remind me to breathe when I read the message. And for extra points, you have to make the message completely impersonal and blunt. And in a weeks time when we definitely ignore you, be sure to follow up with just a '?' ... and nothing else. That'll do it.

'I can do what I like' person...

"I bought the image. I can do whatever I like to it..."

Ok, I actually understand why this one is a bit of a tricky one. The fashion is to stick a filter over everything these days, but believe me when I say this... When it comes to a professional photographers work - literally, no you can't.

It doesn't matter if you paid £5 or £500, unless you have permission from the photographer, that is their artwork and they absolutely do not have to tolerating you 'tweaking' (butchering) their creative vision. See: Copyright Laws

Your camera settings...

"So... what settings do you use?" (Make sure you say this one whilst leaning reaaaally closely over our shoulder and craning your neck to try and see the back of our camera! Photographers don't have any personal space anyway...)

The photoshop request...

Can you photoshop me showjumping the moon please? If not, send me your image and I'll get someone I know to do it. There's this really cool free Facebook group..." - SURE! And whilst you're at it, why don't you just rip my heart and memory card out and stamp on them!

WOW! Your camera...

"Wow! Your camera takes amazing photos doesn't it!" - thanks, I taught it everything it knows... and by the looks of your baking, you must have a really good mixing spoon!

Hello, my name is Holly...

Welcome to my blog

I am an equine photographer based in Essex, England. I've owned and ridden horses always, and I've never known a life without them! I've started this little blog for my many ramblings as I've always enjoyed writing but I've never had an outlet for it - and now I do! I write for a few reasons - mainly to educate or entertain. You'll find me writing regularly about all things photography, horses and dogs so if you like any of those things, you're in the right place! Thanks for joining x
